Game Concept:

A 2D side scroller platformer where a player plays a conservationist trying to save the well-known but critically endangered fauna of Indonesia while navigating the dangerous terrain of Indonesia.

Objective:

For players, create awareness in players about which fauna in Indonesia is important in an engaging manner. for us creators, it is an opportunity to understand the basic mechanisms behind designing a 2D platformer game.

Game Description:

The game is a 2-dimensional side-scrolling platformer starring the player as an endangered fauna conservationist. There are 3 levels representing Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan. On Sumatra, the player has to save the Sumatran Tiger, on Java, the Javan Rhino, and on Kalimantan the Orangutan. Each level has hazards that the player has to navigate through under a timer. Each level becomes progressively harder to navigate. The animals are spread out throughout the levels and the player has to collect all the animals in order to pass a level.

Extra Notes:

This game concept was inspired by a visit to the National Proclamation Text Museum late last semester where we encountered a comprehensive use of Multimedia and Human Computer Interaction in order to rejuvenate the museum and inspire visitors. Among the museum interactions was a side-scrolling 2D action game on a tablet where visitors could play an independence soldier fighting a guerilla war against Dutch soldiers in the jungle. Our original concept was similar to this game and taking cues from the 2D-shooter series ‘Contra’ but we opted to choose a family friendlier and perhaps more critical-issue objective of saving critically endangered Indonesian animals.
